2027 Ogun Election: Ogun West Urged To Unite Behind Senator Yayi To End 50-Year Wait

Political mobilization for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election has begun in earnest as leaders from Ogun West push for the senatorial district to produce the next governor.

Speaking at a ward meeting in Ilaro Ward 2, Igbo-Ewe, Yewa South Local Government Area on Thursday, September 3, 2026, Chief of Staff to Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, High Chief Kayode Odunaro, called on Ogun West people to rally behind the APC governorship hopeful, Senator Adeola, popularly called Yayi.

Yayi Has Delivered For Ogun West, Says Odunaro

Odunaro, who recalled meeting Senator Adeola over 14 years ago, said the senator has shown consistent commitment to the development of Ogun West and Ogun State.

He highlighted Adeola’s contributions to the growth of the Oronna Ilaro Festival into a national and international cultural tourism event. He also mentioned the senator’s advocacy for the upgrade of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro to a Federal University of Technology.

According to Odunaro, Adeola has also facilitated roads, ultra-modern markets, healthcare facilities, school buildings and various empowerment programs across Ogun West and other senatorial districts.

He said the impact of these projects should be judged on their benefit to the people and not dismissed as political propaganda.

Time For Ogun West To Produce Governor, Odunaro Insists

The APC chieftain argued that fairness and equity demand that Ogun West be given the chance to lead the state in 2027.

He noted that the senatorial district has waited for more than 50 years to produce a governor and described Senator Adeola as the candidate with the capacity to break that jinx.

Odunaro charged APC members to intensify grassroots mobilization ahead of 2027. He urged them to take the campaign to every household, street and junction to secure massive support for the party.

“I am sure all of us here are for Yayi. But we need to convince many more people that Yayi is the best man for the job on the basis of proven competence, integrity, equity and fair play”, he stated.

Local Government Leaders Back Yayi Candidacy

Also speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of Yewa South Local Government, Hon. Bankole Sherifdeen Olarenwaju, reaffirmed his support for Adeola and called for wider backing for the APC candidate across the state.

He said the council is complementing the developmental efforts of both Senator Adeola and the Ogun State government.

Former Chairman of Yewa South Local Government, Alhaji Sunmola Kayode Adewale, who attended the meeting, said Ogun West’s long-standing governorship aspiration can be realized with Adeola.

“I am a long-standing member of PDP, but I made a vow that once Yayi is chosen as the candidate, I will join his team, and I did.

I urge everyone to reject the ponzi antics of the opposition of one person bringing three persons and support Yayi fully”, Adewale said.

He described Adeola as the candidate capable of ending the over 50-year political jinx confronting Ogun West.

Grassroots Mobilization Gains Momentum

The meeting had in attendance ward leaders, APC chieftains, traditional stakeholders and youth leaders including Hon. Ademola Ogunsola, Major Abiola Amore rtd, Chief Leke Ibikunle, Barr. Ayo Ajibola, and Alhaja Idiat Oduntan among others.

The event is part of ongoing grassroots mobilization by APC stakeholders as political parties prepare for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.

With Ogun West pushing to break a 50-year jinx, the call for unity behind Senator Yayi is expected to shape political conversations in the district ahead of the polls.
