Hunger Alleviation: Fidelity Bank Shares 2,500 Food Packs To Families In Edo Communities

Fidelity Bank Plc has extended its fight against hunger to Edo State with the donation of food items to over 2,500 vulnerable persons in Uromi and Irrua.

The outreach, which took place at Uromi Town Hall in Esan Central Local Government Area, covered eight communities within the area.

The project was executed under the Fidelity Food Bank, a corporate social responsibility initiative of the bank focused on reducing food insecurity in Nigeria.

Addressing beneficiaries and guests at the event, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications at Fidelity Bank, said the bank is passionate about impacting lives beyond banking.

He explained that the distribution was not just about sharing food but about giving families hope, promoting community strength and improving household welfare.

Nwagboh pointed out that the program aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 2, which targets zero hunger, food security and better nutrition for all.

He revealed that the bank, in partnership with 19 organizations nationwide, gives out about 10,000 food packs monthly to communities with the greatest need.

The Edo State Government lauded the bank’s gesture. Governor Monday Okpebholo, who was represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Jerry Uwangue, said the donation came at a time when many families are struggling.

He stated that the action shows how private companies can support government efforts to improve the living conditions of citizens. He thanked the bank on behalf of the state and the people of Uromi and called on other corporate bodies to follow the same path.

Some of the beneficiaries who received the food packs expressed gratitude to the bank, saying the support will go a long way in reducing the pressure of feeding their households.

The Fidelity Food Bank was launched in April 2023 to address hunger and malnutrition across the country. Since it started, the bank has shared more than 300,000 food packs in all six geopolitical zones.
