Fidelity Bank FundHer Powers Expansion as Akara Café Opens Premium Branch Pavillon in Abuja

How Fidelity Bank FundHer Supported Akara Café’s Expansion to Pavillon Abuja

Building a business is often about recognising opportunities at the right time and having the capacity to act on them.

For Akara Café, that moment came when an exciting opportunity presented itself to create a premium sub-brand that would offer a new expression of what the restaurant had built over the years.

According to the Founder, Martha Essienanwan E., the prospect was exciting but it also came with significant financial commitment.

Like many growing businesses, the Akara Café team understood that expansion requires more than a great idea. It requires the right people, resources, planning and importantly, access to capital. While the business continued to grow, taking on a new expansion meant balancing the investment for the new venture with the working capital needed for day-to-day operations.

That was where Fidelity Bank’s FundHer programme became valuable.

Through the FundHer initiative, Akara Café was able to access financing at a critical point in its expansion journey. The funding provided additional capacity to deploy capital towards costs associated with developing the premium sub-brand, while preserving working capital for the continued operations of Akara Café.

For a growing business, that flexibility makes a meaningful difference.

The Founder noted that access to financing is not simply about receiving funds, but about having the financial room to make strategic decisions, pursue opportunities and continue building without putting pressure on existing operations.

Beyond the financing, the brand also commended the support received throughout the process. The Account Manager, Ms. Racheal, was described as responsive, supportive and available when guidance was needed, making the process seamless despite many moving parts involved in the expansion.

Today, Pavillon, the newest Akara Café branch in Abuja, represents a new chapter for the brand.

Pavillon is a premium expression of the Akara Café brand and an opportunity to take what the business has built into a new space. For the team, opening Pavillon is more than adding another location, it is a reflection of growth, ambition and willingness to explore new possibilities.

The journey from idea to physical space required careful planning, investment and commitment. Having access to the right financial support helped provide the capacity to take that important step.

Pavillon, according to the Founder, represents what can happen when a growing business recognises an opportunity and accesses the support needed to pursue it.

Growth, she added, does not always happen in one dramatic leap. Sometimes it is a series of deliberate decisions, each one building on the last. Having access to the right financial support at the right time can help make those decisions possible.

The Akara Café team expressed gratitude to Fidelity Bank for being part of the journey through FundHer and for supporting its ambition to build, expand and create.

As the brand looks ahead, the focus remains on growing the Akara Café story, creating memorable experiences and exploring new possibilities, with Pavillon being only the beginning.
