Ogun 2027: Egba Lo’kan Agenda Backs Senator Adeola Yayi, Rejects Expelled Faction’s Endorsement of Adebutu
…Promises Massive Electoral Support for APC Flag-Bearer in Ogun Central
ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – The Egba Lo’kan Agenda 2027, a prominent political coalition in Ogun Central Senatorial District, has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the governorship candidacy of distinguished Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, fondly called Yayi, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while distancing itself from a purported endorsement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, by an expelled faction of the group.
In a statement titled “Egba Lo’kan Agenda 2027 Dissociates Itself From the Charade of the Expelled Factional Group’s Endorsement of a Governorship Candidate”, jointly signed by its Convener and Coordinator, Prof. Yemi Oke, SAN, National Secretary Layemi Osanyintola, and National Publicity Secretary Olumide Oluwasogo, the coalition declared that it has no connection whatsoever with what it described as a “misguided and misplaced endorsement” carried out by the splinter group.
According to the coalition, the faction currently operating under the name “Egba Agenda” was formally expelled from the organisation in January 2025 and no longer represents its interests or objectives.
The group alleged that the expelled members were merely using the name to create political relevance and mislead unsuspecting political actors.
Reiterating its commitment to Senator Adeola Yayi’s governorship aspiration, the coalition stressed that it remains firmly aligned with the APC candidate and would only identify with a governorship hopeful whose paternal or maternal roots can be traced to Egbaland.
The group further argued that it would be unreasonable and contrary to the principles of fairness, equity and justice for the Egba people to support another candidate from Ogun East, particularly from the same Iperu axis as the incumbent Governor, Dapo Abiodun, after the region has already produced the state’s governor.
The coalition recalled that it had earlier congratulated Senator Adeola Yayi on emerging as the APC consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election, describing him as a proud son of Egbaland through his maternal lineage from Kemta.
To further underscored its position, the group referenced the warm reception accorded the APC flag-bearer on June 13, 2026, by leading Egba traditional and community leaders.
“To leave no room for doubt, Senator Adeola (YAYI) was openly and widely received by the entire Ologun-Olorogun Egba in the residence of the Balogun of Egbaland, High Chief Sikirulai Atobatele, alongside other distinguished Egba High Chiefs, including the Seriki of Egbaland, High Chief Tosin Fadare, FCA, and several notable leaders”, the statement noted.
While acknowledging that Senator Adeola Yayi is contesting from Ogun West Senatorial District, a zone that has long clamoured for equitable political representation, the coalition said the Egba people have collectively resolved to stand solidly behind him.
According to the group, the APC candidate represents not only a bridge between Ogun West and Ogun Central but also an opportunity to advance the ideals of fairness, inclusiveness and balanced political representation across Ogun State.
The coalition expressed confidence that Ogun Central would deliver the highest number of votes for Senator Adeola Yayi in the 2027 governorship election.
It also emphasized that the Egba people are known for their commitment to justice, fairness and progressive governance, insisting that they cannot be swayed by opportunistic political arrangements.
“Egba people are decent, fair-minded, socially conscious, highly civilised and globally exposed. We are not cheap. We know what is fair, right and just, and we remain committed to protecting our political, socio-cultural, economic and strategic interests”, the statement declared.
As part of its vision for the future of Ogun State, the coalition pledged to engage in constructive discussions with the APC governorship candidate and other stakeholders toward developing a Mutual Memorandum for Sustainable Governance in Ogun State (MMSG).
According to the group, the proposed framework is intended to promote inclusive governance, accountability and equitable development, while ensuring that the mistakes and perceived shortcomings of previous administrations are not repeated.
The coalition concluded by reaffirming its total support for Senator Adeola Yayi’s candidacy and its determination to mobilise the Egba electorate in support of the APC standard-bearer in the 2027 governorship election.
