Tinubu Constitutes APC 2027 Campaign Council, Appoints Yari Director-General

ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, with former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, named as Director-General.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, President Tinubu will serve as Chairman of the council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will serve as Vice Chairmen.

Senator Yari, who governed Zamfara State from 2011 to 2019, will coordinate the campaign. Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, was appointed Secretary. APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, and former NPA Managing Director, Hadiza Bala-Usman, will serve as Deputy Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively.

The council also named a team of advisers to the President. They include former APC National Chairmen, Chief Bisi Akande and Senator Abdullahi Adamu, former Ogun State Governor, Chief Segun Osoba, former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, and Senator Florence Ita-Giwa.

For zonal coordination, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were appointed Deputy Directors-General for the North and South. They will work with Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Deputy Senate President Jibril Barau.

Former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, was named Deputy Director-General for Mobilisation. The President’s Chief of Staff will oversee administration in the same capacity.

Mr. James Abiodun Faleke returns to the campaign structure as Deputy Director-General in charge of Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring. He will supervise zonal directors appointed for the six geopolitical zones: Senator Olushola Adeyeye for South-West, Dr. Ngozi Olejeme for South-South, Senator Uche Ekwunife for South-East, Muntaqha Rabe for North-West, Ahmed Muhammed Ketso for North-Central, and Senator Sani Danladi for North-East.

Stella Okotete, Engineer Abdullahi Garba Ramat and Audu Maikori were named secretaries within the election planning directorate.

The Legal Directorate will be led by Dr. Muiz Adeyemi Banire, with Dr. Liman Hassan and Mr. Babatunde Ogala as deputies. Members include the Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, former Katsina State Governor Ibrahim Shema, Worgu Boms and Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh.

In the media directorate, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, was appointed Coordinating Director for Media and Strategic Communication. He will work with Mr. Dele Alake, Mr. Bayo Onanuga and Mr. Lanre Issa-Onilu. Mr. Tunde Rahman, Mr. Sunday Dare, Mr. Daniel Bwala and Mr. Felix Morka will serve as coordinating deputy directors. Mr. Segun Dada returns as Director of New Media.

Five spokespersons were also named, led by Mr. Dele Alake. Others are Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda.

Addressing the council, President Tinubu urged members to campaign on the administration’s record and to mobilise party structures nationwide ahead of the January 2027 polls.

“We have delivered on our campaign promises and set our country on a path of economic progress. We are definitely out of the dark tunnel and are now at the cusp of reaping the benefits of a prosperous economy that will benefit all Nigerians,” the President said.

“As we march into the campaign season, we have many achievements to trumpet. Let us confidently showcase our record and inspire hope in every corner of our nation,” he added.

The President also directed directorate leaders to incorporate additional party members into the campaign, even if they were not listed in the formal announcement, and called on the council to work towards defeating opposition parties.

The inauguration comes as other parties intensify preparations. The African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and the Nigerian Democratic Congress candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, held live broadcasts this week to launch their campaigns.
