President Bola Tinubu has dismissed rumours about his ill health, saying the speculation is driven by politics.

The President spoke on Monday in Lagos shortly after arriving from Paris following his working vacation in the United Kingdom and France.

Tinubu said he had a fantastic vacation and is in good health to continue the task of governance.

I enjoyed myself. Fantastic! he said.

Responding to questions on his health status and his capacity to continue in office, the President said there is nothing wrong with him.

Ready to kick, ready to work. There is nothing wrong. Rumour will always be emanating from politics, but the facts remain, I am here. Healthy, sound, and ready to go, Tinubu declared.

The President had left Nigeria on August 30 for London before proceeding to Paris for a working vacation that lasted about four weeks.

While in France, Tinubu met with French President Emmanuel Macron, business tycoon Vincent Bollore and Chairman of FirstHoldco Plc, Femi Otedola.

He also witnessed the signing of a 7 billion dollar Memorandum of Understanding between Ogun State Government and DP World for the construction of a Gateway deep seaport in Ogun Waterside and a Blue Marine Economic Zone.

His extended stay outside the country sparked constitutional debate over Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution which deals with presidential vacation and transfer of power to the Vice President when the President is away.

The debate grew after Vice President Kashim Shettima travelled to New York on September 20 for the 81st United Nations General Assembly while the President was still in Europe. The presidency insisted that governance did not stop as Tinubu was in constant touch with Nigeria.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, who received Tinubu in Lagos, said Nigerians should expect renewed vigour and more action from the administration after the President’s rest.

President Tinubu is in Lagos for the Independence Day activities including the premiere of a film in honour of Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, scheduled for October 1 at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu.

The presidency said he will hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates ahead of 2027 before returning to Abuja.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar however said the President’s arrival does not address the constitutional issues raised by his absence.

Atiku said Section 145 requires a written declaration to the National Assembly when the President proceeds on vacation and questioned what measurable outcomes the foreign engagements produced at a time Nigeria faces insecurity and high cost of living.
