Fidelity Bank Diaspora Fixed Deposit: How Nigerians Abroad Can Grow Wealth At Home
Nigerians living in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and other countries are moving beyond regular remittances to building long term wealth at home, and Fidelity Bank is positioning its Diaspora Fixed Deposit as a flexible solution for that goal.
For many Nigerians abroad, money meant for property, school fees, business investment, family support or retirement often sits idle in their accounts until it is needed in Nigeria. The question many now ask is how to make that money work and earn returns while waiting.
This question is becoming more important as diaspora inflows continue to grow.
According to World Bank data, personal remittances to Nigeria stood at about 22.8 billion dollars in 2025, equivalent to about 7.8 percent of Gross Domestic Product. The Central Bank of Nigeria also reported workers remittances of 5.24 billion dollars in the third quarter of 2025 alone.
The figures show not just the size of diaspora support but also the need for better diaspora wealth management, foreign currency savings and structured investment options.
Why Nigerians Abroad Are Shifting From Remittances To Wealth Creation
Diaspora banking used to be mainly about sending money home fast and securely. Today, Nigerians abroad want more.
Many are saving to buy land and houses, fund businesses, pay for education, support family and plan for retirement in Nigeria. They earn in different currencies and need banking products that allow them to preserve value, earn competitive interest and stay connected to Nigeria financially.
A Nigerian earning in US dollars may want to keep funds in dollars. Another may need to build a Naira balance for a project at home. Some need to keep money for just 30 days while others can lock funds for 180 days or 365 days.
These changing needs have increased demand for multi currency fixed deposits and diaspora investment products.
How Fidelity Bank Diaspora Fixed Deposit Works
The refreshed Fidelity Bank Diaspora Fixed Deposit is designed to help Nigerians abroad turn idle funds into earning assets.
Eligible customers can open and fund fixed deposits in four currencies: Naira, US Dollars, British Pounds and Euros. This gives flexibility to choose a currency that matches income and future spending plans.
For Naira, customers can choose tenors of 30, 60, 90, 180 and 365 days. For US Dollar, British Pound and Euro deposits, tenors of 30, 60, 90 and 180 days are available.
The structure allows customers to align their investment period with when the money will be needed in Nigeria.
What Are The Interest Rates
Fidelity Bank is offering competitive rates for diaspora customers.
Eligible Naira fixed deposits attract up to 12.5 percent per annum, while eligible US Dollar deposits attract up to 7 percent per annum. The actual rate depends on the deposit amount and tenor selected.
Rates for British Pound and Euro fixed deposits are determined based on amount and tenor. For qualifying US Dollar placements above 10 million dollars, pricing can be negotiated subject to Treasury approval.
The offer combines high returns with currency flexibility and professional support from the Fidelity Diaspora Banking team.
Support For Nigerians Managing Money From Abroad
One challenge for Nigerians abroad is managing Nigerian bank accounts from another country, including documentation, account funding and investment instructions.
Fidelity Bank says its dedicated Diaspora Banking team supports eligible customers through the entire process, from enquiries and account opening to funding and fixed deposit placement.
This support is important for customers who earn in London, Toronto, Houston or other cities but have financial commitments in Nigeria.
This comes as the Central Bank of Nigeria in March 2026 introduced new measures to deepen diaspora remittances and improve transparency in international money transfer operations.
With formal inflows increasing, Fidelity Bank says its Diaspora Fixed Deposit helps customers move from just sending money to saving, preserving and growing wealth across borders.
For Nigerians abroad, the benefit is that money reserved for tomorrow can still be positioned to grow today while maintaining strong financial ties with Nigeria.
All rates are per annum and are subject to applicable taxes, Treasury confirmation, market conditions and approval. Terms and conditions apply.
