Aftermath of Flood: NDDC Distributes Relief Materials to Rivers Community
The Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC has distributed relief materials to the people of Ogu-Bollo community in Rivers State, as part of its efforts to ameliorate the sufferings of the people of the Niger Delta region.
Presenting the relief materials on behalf of the NDDC Managing Director, the Director II of Education, Health and Social Services, Engr. Jeremiah Onolejoloni, noted that the gesture reflects the commission’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of the people of the Ogu-bollo kingdom and vulnerable communities in the Niger Delta region.
He observed that the gesture was in response to the recent flood disaster, which devastated homes, destroyed farmland, and caused other economic hardships for the people.
He said further: “NDDC appreciates the fact that many people are facing one difficulty, economic challenge or the other. It is in meeting these basic needs that NDDC gave the Derek and Davia Foundation, an NGO, some financial support to provide essential food items and some household materials to the people of Ogu Bollo Kingdom.
The Managing Director reminded the people that the palliatives were an indication that the commission was determined to come to their aid whenever the need arose.
“This event is not just about the distribution of palliatives, rather, it is another way to reaffirm government presence, compassion and solidarity with families experiencing economic hardship and the belief in the renewed hope agenda of Mr President.”
The NDDC boss charged the people to ensure the equitable distribution of the items, enjoining them to embrace peace and support government initiatives and development programmes.
The paramount ruler of Ogu-Bolo, Chief Joachim Amachiri, commended the NDDC for the gesture, which he said would go a long way in providing succour to the community following the devastating effects of the flood.
He pledged the community’s continued support for the programmes of the NDDC in responding to the needs and aspirations of the people.
The Consultant for the programme, who was represented by Dr George Smile, also eulogised the NDDC’s efforts to reach out to communities affected by natural disasters.
He assured that efforts were underway by the development partners, in collaboration with NDDC, to extend similar gestures to neighbouring communities.
