The Rector of Ogun State Institute of Technology, OGITECH, Igbesa, Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, has given an account of how his administration turned around the fortunes of the institution within a short period.

Dr. Oluseye spoke on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, when the leadership of the League of Yewa-Awori Media Practitioners, LOYAMP, paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Igbesa, Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

According to the Rector, OGITECH had only 21 academic programmes when he took over, but today the institution runs 60 accredited programmes.

He said apart from academic expansion, his management also tackled critical challenges that had held the school down for years, including lack of infrastructure, land disputes, poor funding, and low morale among staff.

Oluseye explained that OGITECH is the only state government owned tertiary institution in Ogun West, which makes its funding situation more delicate, but his team has managed to keep the institution afloat and growing.

On human capital, he said the story has also changed. He met only two lecturers with PhD when he assumed office, but today OGITECH can boast of 26 PhD holders, a development he said has improved teaching and research quality.

While answering questions on Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, the Rector described the Ogun West Senator and Chairman of Senate Committee on Appropriations as a consistent friend of OGITECH and the entire Yewa-Awori land.

He said he has known Senator Yayi for over 15 years, having followed his political trajectory from Lagos State to Ogun State, and can attest to his commitment to development.

Dr. Oluseye listed some of the interventions of Senator Adeola in OGITECH to include provision of electricity, construction of internal roads, water supply projects, installation of solar power systems, donation of transformers and buses, and other critical facilities.

He added that outside OGITECH, Yayi has also intervened in key community projects like Ejila-Awori Road, Lusada Road, and the construction of a modern civic centre in Igbesa.

He has provided many things, including electricity, roads, water, solar power, transformers, buses, and so on for us at OGITECH. Yayi has even begun the construction of the Ejila-Awori Road, Lusada Road, and other projects. He even built a civic centre here in Igbesa. Honestly, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Yayi cannot be forgotten at OGITECH and in the Igbesa community, the Rector said.

The Rector noted that Senator Adeola’s impact is not limited to Igbesa alone. Across Ogun West, he said, the senator has built schools, markets, and health facilities and has rolled out empowerment programmes for youths, market women, students, artisans, and the elderly.

He argued that although past senators made efforts, the scale and spread of Yayi’s interventions in just over three years in Ogun West is outstanding.

Dr. Oluseye expressed confidence that Ogun State stands to benefit greatly from Senator Adeola’s wealth of experience if he emerges as governor in 2027.

He also thanked Governor Dapo Abiodun for supporting Senator Adeola’s political journey in Ogun State and for playing a key role in his emergence as Ogun West Senator and as consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the 2027 election.

The Rector said the emergence of Yayi as APC consensus candidate would remain a significant chapter in the political history of Ogun West.

On politics and criticisms trailing the senator, Oluseye advised that not every attack deserves a response, noting that responding to every negative narrative only helps to amplify it.

He called on the people of Ogun West and Ogun State to look beyond propaganda and assess the track record of those seeking to lead them, lamenting that Ogun West has not produced a governor since the state was created in 1976.

He said equity, fairness and justice should guide the 2027 governorship conversation.

In his remarks, the Convener and National President of LOYAMP, Elhadj Abu-Satar Idowu Hamed, praised Dr. Oluseye for his selfless service and for repositioning OGITECH as a leading institution in the state.

Hamed said LOYAMP, formed in 2014, is a body of veteran journalists and editors from Yewa-Awori axis advocating for good governance, equity and development of Ogun West.

He recalled that the group had in the past consulted former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2014 over the Yewa agenda for governor, and had also engaged other leaders including former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Suraj Adekunbi, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Abdulkabir Akinlade.

According to him, LOYAMP decided to support Senator Adeola Yayi because governance is about improving lives, and the senator has demonstrated that through projects and empowerment programmes across Ogun West.

For us at LOYAMP, Senator Adeola Yayi’s record of infrastructural development, human-capital investment, and people-oriented empowerment programmes speaks louder than political propaganda, Hamed said.

He assured that the association would continue to use its platforms to promote responsible journalism and advance the cause of Ogun West’s quest to produce a governor in 2027.
