Ogun 2027: APC Backs Yayi as Authentic Candidate, Suspends Hunye Over Impersonation
APC has reaffirmed Senator Adeola “Yayi” Olamilekan as its Ogun 2027 governorship candidate and dismissed Abayomi Hunye. Here’s what the party said, why Hunye was suspended, and what INEC confirmed.
Ogun 2027: APC Confirms Yayi, Shuts Door on Hunye’s Candidacy Claim
The 2027 race in Ogun State just got clearer.
On Monday, August 24, 2026, the All Progressives Congress (APC) came out to settle the confusion around its governorship ticket. The party reaffirmed Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan, popularly called “Yayi,” as its authentic candidate for the January 2027 election. At the same time, it dismissed Mr. Abayomi Hunye and declared him unqualified to speak for the party.
If you’ve been following Ogun politics, here’s everything you need to know.
What APC Said About Yayi and Hunye
In a statement signed by APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, the party called Hunye an “impostor.”
According to the APC, Hunye’s claim to the governorship ticket was not authorized by the party. The reason: he is currently on suspension.
The suspension, the party explained, started on April 7, 2026. It came from a petition filed by his ward, Tube Ward in Ipokia LGA. The ward executives took the decision, it was ratified at the LGA level, and then approved by the Ogun State Working Committee.
The allegations?
– *Engaging in activities injurious to the image of the party*
– *Deliberate actions aimed at causing disaffection and division among members*
Because of that suspension, APC said Hunye “lacks the standing to represent the APC in any capacity.”
Yayi Remains APC’s Duly Nominated Candidate
The party left no room for doubt about who is flying the APC flag.
Senator Olamilekan emerged from the party’s governorship primary and has Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as his running mate.
APC also confirmed that their names and details have already been submitted to INEC in line with the Electoral Act 2026 and INEC guidelines. Documents attached to the statement, including INEC’s temporary acknowledgement slip, showed the submission was made on Friday, August 7, 2026.
Translation: INEC has officially received Yayi and Kudirat as APC’s candidates for Ogun 2027.
APC’s Warning to the Public and Media
The party isn’t stopping at a press statement.
1. *To individuals and organizations*: APC warned against doing any political or financial business with Hunye. The party said it will not be liable for any loss, legal dispute, or criminal liability that comes from such dealings.
2. *Legal action*: APC’s legal team has been directed to begin contempt proceedings and file a complaint with security agencies over “gross misrepresentation and impersonation.”
3. *To media houses*: The party cautioned outlets against giving Hunye a platform, saying it could be seen as complicity in a fraudulent act.
What This Means for Ogun 2027
With INEC’s acknowledgement in place and the national leadership speaking in one voice, the APC appears to be closing ranks early ahead of January 2027.
The party also urged supporters in Ogun to remain calm and ignore what it called provocations aimed at disrupting peace in the state.
For official updates, APC said the public should contact the National Secretariat through the Office of the National Secretary.
Bottom Line
The Ogun 2027 APC ticket fight seems to be over, at least from the party’s side.
– *Candidate*: Senator Adeola “Yayi” Olamilekan + Balogun Kudirat Abiodun
– *Status*: Submitted to INEC and acknowledged
– *Hunye*: Suspended since April 2026, not recognized by APC
The next move will likely play out at INEC and in the courts, but for now, APC has drawn a clear line.
