Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc, GTCO Plc, has released its audited consolidated and separate financial statements for the period ended June 30, 2026 to the Nigerian Exchange Group, NGX, and London Stock Exchange, LSE.

The Group posted a profit before tax of N603.03 billion in its 2026 half year performance. The profit was driven by strong performance on interest and trading income lines which grew year on year by 7.5 percent and 24.7 percent respectively.

GTCO said the strong earnings recorded was moderated by a N46.2 billion fair value loss recognised in H1-2026, limiting year on year growth in profit before tax to 0.4 percent.

The Group recorded growth across its asset lines, reinforcing a balance sheet that is well structured, liquid and diversified. According to the company, the growth was recorded in each jurisdiction where it operates a banking franchise and across its Payments, Pension and Funds Management businesses.

Group total assets and shareholders funds closed at N18.6 trillion and N3.3 trillion respectively. Capital Adequacy Ratio, CAR, remained very strong, closing at 34.9 percent for Group and 29.2 percent for Bank. Asset quality improved as evidenced by IFRS 9 Stage 3 Loans which closed at 3.5 percent and 4.6 percent at Bank and Group level in H1-2026 compared to 3.4 percent Bank and 5.0 percent Group in FY-2025. Cost of Risk improved to 0.6 percent from 2.2 percent during the same period.

The Group’s loan book net grew marginally by 0.5 percent from N3.13 trillion as of December 2025 to N3.15 trillion in June 2026. Deposit liabilities showed improved performance, growing by 10.3 percent from N12.87 trillion to N14.19 trillion during the same period.

Commenting on the results, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc, Mr Segun Agbaje said the half year results speak to the strength of what the Group has built, a resilient franchise, a strong balance sheet and a business that no longer depends on banking alone. He said fair value movements weighed on reported earnings but the core business held firm. According to him, interest and trading income grew, deposits strengthened and asset quality improved at Group level. He added that the priority now is to execute with discipline and grow responsibly, with digital as lever for scaling across Banking, Payments, Pension and Funds Management and for building a more diversified and resilient financial services group.

Overall, the Group continues to post one of the best metrics in the Nigerian financial services industry in terms of key financial ratios including Pre-Tax Return on Equity, ROAE of 35.9 percent, Pre-Tax Return on Assets, ROAA of 6.6 percent, Capital Adequacy Ratio, CAR of 34.9 percent with Bank at 29.2 percent and Cost to Income ratio of 31.5 percent.
