Plateau Rocks Basketball Club defeated Black Gold Queens 58-44 in their Match Day 5 fixture at the Savannah Conference phase of the 2019 Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the match was played at the indoor sports hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Saturday.
Speaking later, the Coach of Black Gold Queens, Daddy Lawal, said his team lost as a result of the stress arising from the last game played.
“In our next match, we are going to improve better than what we did today and we are looking forward to making the necessary adjustments and calculations in our next match.
“What we do as a team is that we only check our mistakes and get to know how to improve more and do not look at others mistakes. So, our mistakes are what we are going to work better on,” he said.
Lawal added that the game’s officiating was alright, saying if he was looking out for the officiating he would lose focus.
“I am a coach, I should not be looking at the officiating, because if I look at the officiating I am going to lose all my matches.
“My players performed well. We tried to close the margin as possible as we can, but we ran out of luck.
“And we will work hard to win our remaining games,” he said.
Speaking also, Solomon Ringsum, the coach of Plateau Rocks, said they won the game because his players were impressive, adding that he was encouraged by their performance.
“We have achieved some of our objectives and we also have a goal of not continuing to stay at the local level but to pursue our main aim of taking our game to the international level.
“My players’ performance was very impressive. Looking at the first quarter, we had a difference of four ——- 16-12, second quarter 32-22 and third quarter 44-39.
“Right now we look to be on the next trip to Lagos. We have made a step ahead, because if we had lost the game today (Saturday), we could have been derailed,” he said.
Plateau Rocks will face Kaduna Angels, while Black Gold Queens will face Nigeria Customs on Monday.
The league’s conference phase, which began on Oct. 1 in both Abuja and Ibadan, is expected to end on Tuesday after having produced eight qualifiers for the National Finals in Lagos.

SANWO-OLU CALLS FOR EQUAL TRADE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN UK AND AFRICA
…Gov Attends Investment Summit In London
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called for equal partnership between United Kingdom and African countries if it hoped to have genuine global development.
Speaking to journalists at the sideline of the UK-Africa Investment Summit that opened in London on Monday, the Governor reaffirmed that his administration will bring new opportunities that will improve the lives of Lagosians.
According to the Governor: “It is truly a function of who is a partner, who stands and sees you as a fellow partner, not behind, not in front but standing right beside you and sees you and the challenges you have and asking ways which we can work together. So for me, those points truly suggest that we can begin to see true partnership come out of conversations like this.
“For us, it is to see what type of giver you are, are you seeing us as equal partners or master to servant relationship. At the end of the day, what we will be seeking to achieve is what is the greatest good for the greatest number? What are those additional benefits that we see and believe that have potentials to improve the lives of our people?”
The UK-Africa Investment Summit is attended by African leaders, international business Chief Executives and heads of international organisations with the aim of creating new partnerships that will deliver more investments and jobs to the benefit of people and businesses in African countries and the United Kingdom.
The Governor also noted that it is a major opportunity for Africans, most of all Lagos, stating that if the summit is not properly tapped, it could be transferred somewhere else.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the State Government is open for transactions that will make Lagos better, emphasising on the importance of time.
Governor Sanwo-olu, at the Summit, joined President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo for meetings on trade and investment.
Nigeria targets first 70 by 2023 in business ranking
The Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, has said that Nigeria targets being among the first 70 by 2023 in World Bank Ease of Doing Business ranking.
Mustapha spoke at the ‘Night with Maritime Stars’ of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Corporate Dinner and Merit Awards in Lagos on Friday.
The SGF, who was chairman of the occasion, said that currently, the country had moved up from 170 to 131, after President Muhammad Buhari signed the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) in July 2016.
He expressed optimism that with the PEBEC initiative, the 2023 target would be achieved.
Mustapha said that the government, in its bid to improve efficiency and productivity in the industry and country, had created the council to ensure an enabling environment for port efficiency.
“Government will continue to support the maritime sector because on it rests opportunities for wealth creation and economic growth,” the SGF said.
He said that there was still a long way to go, but there was need to recognise the progress that had been made so far.
The SGF pointed out that the progress made so far by NIMASA was due to the commitment and drive of its staff and stakeholders in the industry, hence the need to appreciate them.
He urged the staff that were not recognized at the event to strive hard, for tomorrow could be their time.
In his welcome remarks, the Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, observed that since the introduction of the NIMASA annual staff commendation awards three years ago, the image and perception of the agency had been transformed.
Dakuku highlighted some of the achievements of the agency to include introduction of final billing system, annual maritime forecast, improved ship registry, increased ship tonnage, among others.
He attributed the achievements to the commitment of the members of staff at the agency.
According to him, this is the reason for celebrating outstanding as well as long serving officers.
The NIMASA boss said that there was, however, still work to be done in order to build on the modest achievements.
He said that industry players had been a source of strength for the agency with the robust support they had given.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that for Long Service Award, 68 staff members were recognised for 25 years in service, 34 for 20 years and 69 for 15 years.
For Industry Stakeholders Merit Award, the Most Compliant International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Onshore Facility 2019 went to APM Terminal, while Best Terminal/Jetty Operator 2019 went to Tincan Island Container Terminal.
The Best Maritime Training Institution 2019 went to Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron.
