Shettima Meets Nigerians In New York At UNGA 81 Townhall

Vice President Kashim Shettima has held a townhall meeting with members of Nigerian community in New York on the sidelines of 81st Session of United Nations General Assembly UNGA.

Shettima who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR at the event conveyed warm greetings of the President to Nigerians living in United States.

He said President Tinubu was also a diaspora product from Chicago and understands the value of Nigerians abroad.

The townhall engagement was coordinated and moderated by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission NiDCOM, Hon Dr Abike Dabiri-Erewa OON.

The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen diaspora engagement and investment towards national development.

Discussions at the event focused on diaspora participation in national development, investment opportunities, skills transfer and role of Nigerians abroad in advancing Nigerias economic and diplomatic interests.

The engagement provided opportunity for Nigerians in United States to interact directly with government delegation and share ideas on how to contribute to growth at home.

Governors present at the meeting were Governor of Kwara State AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Governor of Zamfara State Dauda Lawal, Governor of Rivers State Siminalayi Fubara and Governor of Borno State Babagana Zulum.

Also in attendance were Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Innovation Science and Technology Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Dr Bernard Doro, Minister of Education Dr Tunji Alausa, Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dr Dele Alake, Minister of Women Affairs Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite and Minister of State FCT Dr Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure.

Permanent Representative of Nigeria to United Nations Jimoh Ibrahim was also present.

The diaspora townhall is one of key events lined up on sidelines of UNGA 81 to connect government with Nigerians in diaspora and encourage their involvement in nation building.
