Following the success of the maiden edition, Cycling Africa in collaboration with the Kano State Government has announced the second edition of Cycling Kano, scheduled for Saturday, December 12, 2026, in Kano.

Cycling Africa Announces 2nd Cycling Kano For December 12, Unveils Water Is Life Theme
The 2026 edition will be held under the theme Water is Life, using cycling as a platform to drive conversation around access to clean water, water conservation and climate change.
The debut edition in 2025 was the first competitive cycling event of its scale in Northern Nigeria, drawing over 1,000 cyclists and enthusiasts from across the country. Organizers say the 2026 edition will build on that momentum while spotlighting the protection and equitable distribution of water resources.
President and Chief Executive Officer of Cycling Africa, Bamidele Adeleye, in a statement on Tuesday, said the success of Cycling Kano 2025 was made possible by the support of Kano State Governor, His Excellency Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, who remains committed to using sports for youth engagement, economic inclusion and healthy living.
According to Adeleye, the 2026 event will feature expanded competitive categories, enhanced route safety and renewed focus on grassroots talent discovery.
He explained that beyond the race, Cycling Kano 2026 will serve as a platform for community dialogue, advocacy and awareness on water-related issues, with the message that every drop counts and collective action is needed to safeguard water for future generations.
Adeleye said the second edition represents commitment to building a lasting cycling culture in Northern Nigeria.
He said Water is Life is not just a theme but a call to action, bringing cyclists, communities and stakeholders together to discuss clean water access, conservation and impact of climate change on cities and rural areas.
He recalled remarkable performances in 2025 from professional cyclists like Isa Momoh and young talents like Mubarak Auwal and Islam Yau Abubakar, noting that the 2026 edition will provide a bigger platform for athletes while championing a cause that affects everyone.
The 2026 event in partnership with Kano State Government will kick off from the historic Emir’s Palace, traverse key routes across the city and finish with a celebration of Kano’s rich cultural heritage.
Organizers said the event will include advocacy activations, water conservation awareness points along the route and partnerships with environmental and WASH, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, organizations.
Cycling Africa will unveil a portal in November for participants to register for the event.
The 2nd Cycling Kano is expected to attract cyclists, cycling clubs, sports enthusiasts, families and participants from Kano and other parts of Nigeria, strengthening cycling culture and promoting it as a healthy, environmentally friendly and sustainable means of mobility.
The 2025 edition was sponsored by Kano State Government and Union Bank of Nigeria, with support from Flour Mills of Nigeria, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria and Cway.
