At 60, Aig-Imoukhuede Says Life Is About Building Institutions, People And A Stronger Africa

Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede is 60 today and has shared a personal reflection on a life defined by faith, family, service and institution building.

In a message posted on LinkedIn on his birthday, the former Access Bank Group Managing Director and Chairman of Coronation Group expressed gratitude to God for life, grace, family, friendship and purpose.

He wrote that he receives the milestone with profound gratitude to God for life, for grace, for family, for friendship, and for the privilege of purpose.

Looking back on his journey, Aig-Imoukhuede said one idea has connected all the chapters of his life, which is the calling to build.

According to him, his life work has been to build institutions, to build people, to build opportunities and to help build a stronger Africa.

He added that beyond institutions, his journey has also been about building a life anchored in faith, family, service and enduring values.

Aig-Imoukhuede said whatever he has achieved was not by him alone, crediting his wife Ofovwe, their children, family, friends, colleagues, partners and mentors who challenged and supported him.

He also paid tribute to his mother, Pastor Emily, and his late business partner and close friend, Herbert Wigwe, whose memories remain part of his story.

Reflecting on his 50th birthday, he recalled describing himself then as God’s Work in Progress, a description he said still holds true ten years after.

Rather than seeing 60 as the peak, Aig-Imoukhuede said he sees it as the start of another decade of purposeful work and service.

He said his prayer going forward is for grace, wisdom and strength to build more intentionally and generously, leaving behind stronger institutions, wider opportunities and transformed lives.

For him, the birthday is not just celebration of age but a renewal of commitment to service, purpose and impact.

He concluded his message with appreciation and faith, saying sixty years, deeply thankful, still building, to God be all the glory.
