NiDCOM Appeals For Calm As Nigerians In France Face Community Tensions, Lists Safety Guidelines
NiDCOM urges Nigerians in France to remain calm, respect French laws
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has appealed to Nigerians living in France to remain calm and law abiding amid ongoing concerns affecting Nigerian communities in the country.
The appeal was made by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, in a press statement issued on Wednesday, October 29, 2026 in Abuja.
The statement which was signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols at NiDCOM, called on Nigerians in France to exercise restraint, avoid any act that could lead to confrontation and maintain public order at all times.
Dabiri-Erewa advised Nigerians to cooperate peacefully with lawful instructions from French authorities and to avoid violence, provocation and any form of unruly behaviour.
She also warned against spreading unverified information and rumours especially on social media, stressing that false reports could escalate tension and put more people at risk.
According to her, Nigerians abroad are ambassadors of the country and must project a positive image of Nigeria while also respecting the laws, culture and institutions of their host country.
The NiDCOM boss further urged Nigerians to respect neighbours and other communities regardless of nationality, religion or background, noting that peaceful coexistence remains critical.
She encouraged anyone whose safety or fundamental rights may be threatened to seek proper legal assistance and to reach out to emergency services or the Nigerian consular services in France for support.
Dabiri-Erewa also called on Nigerian community leaders, student groups, professional bodies, family heads and diaspora associations across France to help spread the message of peace, unity and responsibility.
She asked them to work together, remain cautious and ensure orderliness in their various communities.
NiDCOM said it will continue to monitor the situation and engage relevant authorities where necessary to ensure the welfare and safety of Nigerians in France.
