Havilahgiyon College Holds Maiden Matriculation Ceremony, Sets Vision for Skill-Based Empowerment | Prestige News

Havilahgiyon College of Health, Vocational Studies, Fisheries and Horticulture held its inaugural matriculation ceremony on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at its Vocational Skills Study Centre in Tunga Maje, Abuja. The event marked a significant milestone in the college’s mission to deliver practical, employment-driven education to Nigerian youth.
Speaking during the ceremony, college representatives described the occasion as “a defining moment” for the institution and its pioneer students, who have officially commenced their academic journey in various skill-oriented programs. These include Tailoring and Fashion Design, Fish Farming and Aquaculture, Horticulture and Environmental Management, and Community Health and Related Health Programs.
The institution was founded to close the widening gap in vocational and health education in Nigeria by producing graduates equipped with real-world skills. “Our goal is to develop job creators, not job seekers,” a spokesperson said. “In a country grappling with youth unemployment, the need for this kind of education has never been more urgent.”
Havilahgiyon College boasts state-of-the-art training facilities, industry-seasoned faculty members, and a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship. Its approach combines academic instruction with hands-on practice, ensuring students graduate with competencies that are relevant and marketable.
As the first cohort of students were formally matriculated, college authorities reaffirmed their commitment to growth and excellence. Plans are underway to establish innovation hubs and foster partnerships with industries to create an ecosystem that supports both learning and enterprise.
The college also called on members of the press to help amplify its vision, urging the media to spotlight the value of vocational education and celebrate the dignity of skilled work.
“We are planting seeds today that will yield a harvest of economic empowerment, self-reliance, and national development,” the statement concluded.
