ICYMI: Nnamdi Kanu set to secure bail today ~ Prestige News
Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), may get a court arranged bail today, according to reports, credited to a government lawyer.
In a report, first published by Sahara Reporters, government appears set to drag Kanu to Federal High Court today in a special session to fast track his bail.
Kanu’s lead lawyer, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor has confirmed the court hearing.
In a short statement on Wednesday night, Ejiofor said the court hearing will take on the legal team’s pending applications.
The applications include a motion for bail.
“We wish to notify you that Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case has been fixed tomorrow, 2nd December, 2021, at the Federal High Court, Abuja, for the hearing of our pending applications’, Ejiofor wrote.
“As always, your fervent prayers are solicited. VICTORY is our only goal and it will surely be achieved”, he said.
Another Kanu lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor confirmed the hearing in an interview with BBC Pidgin
.
The last time Kanu was arraigned on 12 November, his lawyers staged a walkout and the case was adjourned till 19 January.
Since then Igbo elders have intervened in his case and have appealed to President Buhari to drop the charge of treason against Kanu.
Although Buhari said he does not want to be seen interfering in a matter before the judiciary, lawyers always believe that the executive can file a nolle prosequi or simply withdraw its case.
SaharaReporters said tomorrow’s special session could open the door for Kanu’s release on bail.
