Oyo Speaker, DG NILDS Praise Obasa’s Leadership Role In State House of Assembly Financial Autonomy
The Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Adedoyin and the Director-General of National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies ( NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, have praised the Speaker, Lagos House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. ( Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa for his role in the financial autonomy granted State House of Assembly.
The duo made this known in their opening remarks at the capacity building workshop for Lagos House Assembly on Friday, September 18, 2020, at TCC Ogere Convention Center, Ogun State.
According to Adedoyin, ” We thank Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, who is the Chairman, Conference of Speakers for the strive that he has achieved in ensuring that all the state House of Assemblies enjoy the benefits of financial autonomy.”
” The pursuit of financial autonomy is the basis of survival and consolidation of democratic growth of our country.”
He said all other State Houses of Assembly are looking forward to the day they will also enjoy the benefits of financial autonomy that Lagos House of Assembly has been enjoying since 2003.
Prof. Sulaiman who was represented by Dr. Shuaibu Danwanka has this to say about the speaker: “The institute wants to use this opportunity to appreciate the leadership role played by the Speaker of Lagos House of Assembly as the Chairman of Conference of Speakers in bringing about through consultation and other strategic engagement in the realization of financial autonomy to State House Assemblies in the country.”
“We also want to appreciate the Lagos House of Assembly, in particular, the Speaker and other members of the assembly for being role models to all other State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria.”
Obasa in his goodwill message thanked the organizer of the capacity building workshop.
He said, ” Your efforts have been of imminent benefit to the Parliament. It has empowered and enriched the state parliaments in their functions and performance in the areas of oversight and budgetary exercise.”
He enjoined his colleagues to pay rapt attention to the workshop in order to enhance their legislative knowledge.
The capacity building workshop was organised by the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies(NILDS) and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), a Germany Christian Party foundation.
The program will end on Saturday, September 19, 2020.
