MMPN Celebrates Sultan of Sokoto at 20, Hails Two Decades of Peaceful Leadership

The Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria has joined millions of Nigerians to celebrate the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, as he marks 20 years on the throne.

In a congratulatory message released on Saturday, November 1, 2026, the National President of MMPN, Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said the 20th coronation anniversary represents two decades of selfless service to Islam, the Muslim Ummah and the Nigerian nation.

Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar ascended the throne as the 20th Sultan of Sokoto in 2006. Since then, MMPN noted, his reign has been defined by exemplary leadership, humility, wisdom and an unwavering dedication to national peace and unity.

The association said it is particularly proud to identify with the Sultan who serves as the Grand Patron of MMPN.

According to the statement, the Sultan has over the years demonstrated genuine interest in the growth of Muslim media professionals and has consistently shown confidence in the media as a tool for fostering understanding and responsible citizenship.

MMPN expressed deep appreciation for the fatherly support and guidance it has continued to receive from the Sokoto Caliphate under his leadership.

The group also highlighted the Sultan’s role as a bridge builder. It said his interventions and public statements have consistently promoted interfaith dialogue, religious tolerance and mutual respect among Nigerians of diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds.

At a time when Nigeria is grappling with various challenges, the Sultan’s voice of moderation and reason, MMPN added, has remained a source of reassurance and stability.

The media practitioners further said the Sultan’s recognition of the critical role of ethical journalism has inspired its members to uphold fairness, professionalism and public accountability in their reportage.

While congratulating the Sultanate Council, the people of Sokoto State and the entire Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and the diaspora, MMPN described the 20-year reign as a blessing to the country.

The association prayed for the Sultan’s continued good health, divine wisdom and long life to enable him continue his invaluable service to Islam, to humanity and to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The press release was signed by Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Balogun, National President of the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria.
