Diaspora Remittances Near $1bn Monthly, NiDCOM Hails Nigerians Abroad Over Reform Confidence
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, has commended Nigerians in the Diaspora for their sustained contributions to the Nigerian economy as monthly remittance inflows approach 1 billion dollars.
The commission made this known in a press release issued in Abuja on October 20, 2026, signed by its Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun.
According to NiDCOM, the rising remittances underscore the commitment of Nigerians abroad to national development and their growing confidence in the country’s economic reforms.
The commission also noted that investments by Nigerians in the Diaspora have surged in the last few years, particularly in healthcare, agriculture, food industry and information and communication technology.
It said these investments support businesses, create employment and bring valuable expertise into the country.
NiDCOM stated that the removal of fuel subsidy and unification of the foreign exchange market under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu were difficult but necessary decisions to address longstanding economic distortions.
The commission said while the journey in the last three years has not been easy, encouraging signs are emerging with external reserves now approaching 60 billion dollars and rising remittance inflows.
To encourage more investments, NiDCOM said it continues to engage the diaspora through platforms such as the annual National Diaspora Day celebrations and the Nigerian Diaspora Investment Summit.
It added that the recently held Nigeria Diaspora Economic Conference in Canada also brought Nigerians together to explore investment opportunities, build business relationships and discuss ways of directing more diaspora resources towards Nigeria’s growth.
Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, commended Nigerians in the Diaspora for continuing to support their families and investing in their homeland despite challenges of the past few years.
She urged them to sustain their contributions, noting that their remittances and investments are helping to keep businesses running, support households and create opportunities for more Nigerians.
NiDCOM assured that it will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to deepen engagement with Nigerians in the Diaspora and make it easier for them to invest in the country.
The commission expressed optimism that with sustained reforms and greater private sector participation, more Nigerians abroad will find viable opportunities to bring their ideas, skills and resources home.
