Wike's Rainbow Coalition gets major boost as Rivers Labour Party declares full support

The Rivers State chapter of the Labour Party has thrown its weight behind the Rainbow Coalition political movement led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike.

The endorsement was announced on Tuesday, October 7, 2026, during a press conference in Port Harcourt by the state chairman of the party, Fredrick Nwoje.

Nwoje said the Labour Party sees the Rainbow Coalition as a progressive and inclusive governance structure that accommodates leaders from different political divides for the development of Rivers State and Nigeria.

He explained that the coalition brings together key political figures from the Peoples Democratic Party, the All Progressives Congress, the Labour Party and other stakeholders, which according to him proves Wike’s ability to build bridges beyond party lines.

He noted that governance should be placed above partisan politics, adding that Wike has shown through the coalition that unity must be practiced and not just preached.

The Rivers Labour Party chairman stressed that the coalition is creating opportunities for competent Rivers people to contribute to governance irrespective of their political parties, adding that the interest of the state is greater than any individual party interest.

Nwoje described Wike as the National Leader of the Rainbow Coalition and praised his commitment to the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

He however criticized the APC Governors Forum for opposing the coalition. He said their rejection of the arrangement is driven by fear and envy of Wike’s growing political influence across party lines.

He challenged the governors to come to the field and campaign against Wike openly if they believe he has no political value, instead of what he described as crying behind closed doors and lobbying against him at the Presidential Villa.

Nwoje insisted that President Bola Tinubu knows those who are genuinely working for the success of his administration.

Speaking on the position of the Labour Party in the coalition, Nwoje reassured members and candidates in all 23 local government areas of Rivers State that the party is not a bystander. He said Labour Party remains a key stakeholder in the Rainbow Coalition and will not be pushed aside in the power sharing arrangement.

He assured that the party will get its fair share and its rightful position within the coalition.

He called on residents of Rivers State, especially young people, to embrace and support the Rainbow Coalition, saying it will promote peace, stability and development in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
